Suffolk Punch Cylinder Mowers Are Back!

suffolk-punch-logoThe Suffolk Punch cylinder lawn mower was first introduced in 1954 by Suffolk Iron Foundries of Stowmarket. Despite the Punch being their first ever motorised model, this company had a long history when it came to making agricultural and horticultural machines.

The introduction of the Suffolk Punch cylinder mower was a huge evolution in lawnmower design. A lot of its key components and features were seized by other manufacturers many years afterwards. Even today the majority of cylinder mowers have an incredibly similar layout and appearance.

The Suffolk Punch was one of the first popular mowers to be fitted with a compact but powerful 4-stroke petrol engine. Major components of the machine were built from pressed steel and light weight alloys which made a huge difference to other mowers at the time which were built from cast iron and heavy gauge sheet steel.

Many thousands of Suffolk Punch cylinder machines were sold in the UK and overseas making it an incredibly popular machine. They were the most reliable domestic motor mowers to ever be produced in the UK and still to this day have a very loyal band of dedicated followers.

Eventually, Suffolk Punch became part of the Atco Qualcast group, and the name was not heard of for many years afterwards.

Until now…

Suffolk Punch cylinder mowers are back!

Here at Just Lawnmowers we couldn’t be more pleased to announce the return of this spectacular name to our industry.
We have three incredible machines available which are all fantastically made to the high standards that Suffolk Punch has always been known for. That means no sign of plastic gears and belts but the use of roller chains, ball race bearings and grease nipples.

419105 - SP 16CThe Suffolk Punch SP16c lawn mower is powered by an ultra reliable Briggs and Stratton 4-stroke engine making it environmentally friendly, neighbourhood friendly, and economically friendly. It even features steel front and rear rollers which provide the signature cylinder mower striped finish for that ‘classic garden’ look. With a 16″ cutting width this machine is suitable for smaller lawns. It can be purchased for £899.00 by clicking here.

419106 - SP 20CWe then have the Suffolk Punch SP20c lawn mower which is very similar to the SP16c, except with a larger cutting width of 20″ making it ideal for larger lawns. 1. I bought my Suffolk Punch second hand over 50 years ago. It is the early version without the dog clutch to the roller drive. Apart from a rather dented grass box which still has the original decal visible it remains a going concern. Would anyone be interested in taking it over?

    1. Hi Geert,
Good to see another user of the Suffolk Punch Model 43DL. Do you still the Manual for this mower, and the model year yours was approximately produced which will help me. Also ID details.
When I receive this in your email reply, I will see what I can do.
      Kind regards
      Frank

  2. Sir,
I have had my Suffolk Punch 14 S for 25 years and is still going strong but over the years i have lost three of the drive cover screws and i cannot find anywhere to replace them. Can you help?
    Kind Regards,
    D.Robertson

    1. Screws can be bought at Daymans DIY store, king Richard’s road,Leicester, they just have just have to be cut down to right length

  3. Have not had good experience with my 14 inch Allett ever since it was purchased. Always had excellent service from my Suffolk Punch.Recently bought Mountfield 459 which I do not like. ? Any suggestions for a ‘Punch’ equivalent.

    Many thanks

  4. These little engines are not just good on mowers but are also ideal as an inbord engine in small dinghies. With the centrifugal clutch connected to the stern drive direct you can sit there on tick over in your boat and not move until you open the throttle…brilliant..been doing it for years!

  5. Hello there all, can somebody tell me about my Suffolk super punch 17″ as I want to rebuild & restore this machine, it has E8207 on the side of the engine, can anyone tell me if it’s the cast iron engine or the alloy engine and if it’s a 75cc or a 98cc please ? Kind regards Gerry.

  6. I still have my Suffolk punch and use it every week. I bought it second hand thirty years ago and it is still going strong, People ask how I get such a nice lawn, my answer is get a proper lawn mower not a grass cutter. I live on Vancouver Island Canada. Wish I could get a new one.

  7. I’ve lost 3 of the 4 recoil pull start retaining screws, does anyone know what size and thread they are as I can’t start the machine with only one screw holding the recoil on

  8. Have you a coil&condenser assembly part no.E.8123 for my Suffolk 14″ Super Punch motor mower.Great machine but getting old like me.

  9. Unusual design, not your typical ‘mower’ look. But if the reviews are any indications, they seem like a good, established brand.
