Grass and Lawn Care In April

rp_izy41pdeas2_2.jpgIf the month of April lives up to her reputation, then the recent showers across the country will be here to stay. Great news for your grass, but perhaps a bit more work for you! This is a great time to put some seed down if your lawn is looking a bit weathered. Over seeding can help recover those bald patches, especially under trees or in front of those football goals! If you are worried about a difference in colour when the new growth comes through it might be worth considering seeding the whole lawn to get that perfect match. However in most cases the colour difference is not noticeable.

As you have probably noticed your lawn doesn’t do a lot of growing over the colder months, but a bit of sunshine and some April showers can soon change that in the blink of an eye. Regular maintenance can make all the difference to the health of your lawn and just below we have made a concise list of those little jobs that can help you achieve lawn perfection!

1. Mowing – You might think this is obvious of course, and how often you mow depends on the time of year, but during Spring/early Summer you should aim for once a week. Regular mowing encourages new and healthy growth, just think of it as you would a hair cut! Here at Just Lawnmowers we have a stunning range of all the best lawn mowers from all the top brands. Our prices are constantly updated to offer our customers the best value for money, and together with our commitment to excellent customer service and our vast experience you really don’t need to look anywhere else. We are passionate about gardening and will always endeavour to help you as much as we can, not just with great products but with expert advice.

2. Moss removal – If your lawn is damp, doesn’t see much sun or it doesn’t drain well, it may suffer from a covering of moss. This is unsightly and eventually will lead to more problems of not removed. You can use a scarifier or chemicals. We can’t help you with the chemicals but have a look here at our excellent range of scarifiers. We would highly suggest you consider scarifying, as if you use chemicals you will have to rake away the dead moss anyway.

3. Feeding – Unless you already have an amazingly healthy lawn then now is the time to add a bit of fertilizer, this will increase the productivity of the grass and in turn discourage moss and weeds. Chicken manure pellets are a great organic option. Whichever fertilizer you choose it’s really important to follow the instructions, using a Spring/Summer product after August could have devastating effects on the health of your lawn.

4. Watering – Your lawn can turn brown in Summer and still recover when the next rain comes. However at times of drought you may want to water your lawn every 10 days or so, and if the ground is particularly hard, use a garden fork to make holes to aerate it.

5. New Turf – if you’ve laid new turf leave it to settle for 7 days. Lawns grown from seed usually require at least one season before use. After this time, treat as you would an established lawn.

They are easier than you might think to manoeuvre and they can offer you a fuss free lawn mowing experience. And lets face it, they are quite good fun at the same time!
