The History Of Mountfield Lawnmowers
Mountfield lawn mowers are well-known for their quality and reliability. The Mountfield name has been associated with lawnmowers for nearly 50 years.
Mountfield began manufacturing rotary lawn mowers at premises in Maidenhead in 1962; the modern, high specification machines of today bear little resemblance to their ancestors but all share a common ethos.

Mountfield Ethos
Mountfield lawnmowers have comprehensive manufacturer’s warranties (the period varies according to the model), which give you peace of mind and protect your investment. When you buy a Mountfield mower you are buying a quality machine that will provide you with years of service and reliability.
Mountfield are one of the UK’s best selling makes of walk behind mowers, this is because of the quality and service they have offered over the years. They offer a wide range with models for lawns and gardens of all sizes.
Mountfield Lawn Mower Range
Mountfield manufacture 4-wheeled lawn mowers, rear roller mowers, cylinder mowers, electric mowers, mulching mowers and ride-on mowers, all of which offer fantastic value for money and excellent features.
Which Mountfield Lawn Mower Should I Buy?

The first thing to consider is the size of your garden. Is it small, medium, large or extra-large? If we use a tennis court as a reference point, small gardens are around half a tennis court, medium up to three-quarters and large up to one and a half. Extra large gardens are half an acre or more and a ride-on mower would be a more appropriate choice.
Depending on the size of your garden you may have a choice of power source. Mains electric mowers are quiet, lightweight and easy to use; they are ideal for smaller gardens. Petrol engine mowers are a better choice for larger areas as they are more powerful and not restricted by a cable. Modern petrol engines are easy to start; on some you just have to turn a key.
Mowers with 4 wheels are highly manoeuvrable and give an excellent finish on all types of lawn. If you want a classic striped effect finish you’ll need a machine with a rear roller. Cosset an pamper ultra fine lawns with a cylinder mower, they cut grass with scissor like precision.
Hand propelled machines have to be pushed to make them move forward, the motor or engine’s sole function is to drive the cutter blade. Power driven models have a transmission so they require less effort to use; just engage the drive and the mower will move forward.
Finally, do you want to collect your grass clippings? As well as conventional mowers with grass collectors, Mountfield have a range of Multiclip machines which save time, money and effort by recycling clippings. Mulching lawnmowers recycle your grass clippings without sacrificing the standard of finish using a Mountfield Multiclip mower. Grass is cut and re-cut into tiny particles which are blown down into the base of the turf where they decompose and return valuable nutrients to the soil. Mowing your lawn the Multiclip way will save you time, money and effort.
Uniquely Mountfield
Mountfield are able to offer very competitive prices on their entry-level, domestic lawn mowers due to their reliable own-brand engines. This allows them to under-cut the competition whilst still maintaining functionality and dependability. These make them the perfect choice for a domestic user on a budget.

I nearly entitled this post as “How long is a piece of string” But the question is “How long is my dipstick”? My Hayter 41 has failed, which will be a winter project, so I’ve bought a shiny new red Mountfield NTL434-R. STIGA 120cc. Having finished off the assembly, I come to adding the oil, hmmm! The manual says, if the dipstick is long, screw it in, then remove to check the level, if it’s short don’t screw it in. Question, The stick is 69mm from the base of the thread to the tip. Do I have the long one or the short one? No further info in the manual, result? I daren’t fire it up until I’m sure the oil level is correct.
Ideas on a postcard!
Mountfied used to be a trusted company but they have changed. They con you into buying a 48v system, then after you have invested in batteries etc they discontinue it and down grade their products to a 40v system, making sure they are incompatible so you have to start again., BEWARE if you buy into their 40v system they will probably discontinue that also. Once a good company – now a quick buck scam.
Just finished cutting my lawn with the Mountfield SP 185 for the first time. I am really impressed with this self-propelled machine. Easy to assemble by carefully following the instructions. It started first pull on the cord and has a good range of variable cutting heights. Can’t fault it and would highly recommend it to those who need a self-propelled mower.
I purchased a Mountfield Princess 34cm in August 2017. Brand new and £99.00 inc VAT and delivery. The press button switch has become faulty and I asked for the price of a spare part. Guess how much? £99 plus shipping. Probably a 10p switch because they buy them by the thousand. Avoid, obviously rip you off for spares.
Mountfield has been a trusted lawn mower brand for many years. Even my parents used to own one back in the day.
